Nir was born and raised in Bnei Brak to Sasson (of blessed memory) and Tzivia Hadad, the fifth of 6 siblings. Nir was an excellent student and in his youth was a counselor in Bnei Akiva's Bnei Brak branch. Later, he studied at the Hesder Yeshiva in Otniel, enlisted in the Armored Corps where he initially served as a driver and then completed an officer training course.
After his discharge, he met Chen and married her. They had sweet twin daughters - Roni and Noga. When the war broke out, Nir had every reason to stay home and not join his brothers in battle. But Nir wouldn't give up and constantly checked where he was truly needed. He didn't just want to "report for reserve duty" but to genuinely contribute and give from himself. He contacted friends who told him they were short a tank driver and needed him. Nir knew this was the right thing to do and joined them. He told Chen: "I'm healthy and strong, and there's no reason I shouldn't go fight."
After three difficult months of fighting in the north, Nir returned home and started establishing an independent business for family financial management. Just as the business began to succeed, Nir and his platoon were called to Gaza, and everything stopped again. Even then, Nir had every reason not to join this rotation, but again he said, "True, this comes at exactly the wrong time, but there's nothing to do - we need to rescue the hostages and eliminate evil."
Throughout his life, he never let any excuse or reason divert him from the path of truth. Nir knew what was right and followed it without confusion. Always without excuses. That was Nir.
Nir and his platoon members went on a mission in Gaza. On the way there, they drove over an explosive device that killed two of his friends immediately and severely wounded two others, including Nir. As a result of inhaling the heavy smoke in the tank, he needed a lung transplant which unfortunately didn't arrive in time, and he passed away after four months fighting for his life. He was 28 when he fell. Nir left behind a great void and immense pain.
