infiltrators in the fields of Kibbutz Nahal Oz. He was 21 years old when he was killed.<br \/>\nRoi, son of Shmaryahu and Yael, was born in Tel Aviv on April 24, 1935. He grew up in a pioneering family, from whom he absorbed a deep commitment to the Jewish people and the State of Israel, as well as a willingness to sacrifice and face challenges and danger.<br \/>\nHe completed his elementary education at the Ness Ziona School in Tel Aviv. At the age of 13, during the War of Independence, he already demonstrated his sense of responsibility and dedication to security by carrying messages between military positions.<br \/>\nLater, he studied at the Mikveh Israel Agricultural School, where his love for the land and farming took shape. After one year, he continued his studies at the Shevach Vocational School in Tel Aviv. During his school years, he helped support his family and worked during summer vacations to help cover his educational expenses.<br \/>\nAt a young age, Roi joined the United Movement youth movement. At 16, he became a devoted counselor, caring deeply for the activities and cultural lives of his trainees.<br \/>\nRoi believed strongly in the importance of educated farmers with both practical and theoretical knowledge, who would help build and develop the land of Israel. Although leaving Mikveh Israel was difficult for him, he was happy when he received the opportunity to work the land and take part in establishing a new community.<br \/>\nIn July 1952, before reaching the official enlistment age, Roi volunteered for the Israel Defense Forces as part of the Nahal Brigade. He completed officers' training, and when the decision was made to establish Kibbutz Nahal Oz, he was appointed security officer and commander of the area.<br \/>\nHe dedicated himself fully to his role, studying military subjects, participating in training exercises, and carrying the heavy responsibility of protecting the kibbutz and its borders. He was always the first to volunteer, setting a personal example through his courage, determination, and commitment.<br \/>\nDespite living and working under the constant threat of enemy fire, Roi remained optimistic and full of life. He loved music and beauty, and his attention to detail was reflected in every aspect of his life. His kindness, modesty, and love for others earned him the respect and affection of his friends and fellow kibbutz members.<br \/>\nOn April 29, 1956, during the Jewish holiday of Lag BaOmer, a lookout reported that Arab shepherds were cutting crops near the kibbutz fields. Roi immediately rode out on horseback to protect the fields and drive away the infiltrators.<br \/>\nHe was ambushed by armed Palestinian infiltrators near the border. Roi fought back and managed to fire several shots before he was killed. His body was taken across the border into Gaza and was returned to Israel later that day through the mediation of the Israel-Egypt Armistice Commission.<br \/>\nOn the day of his death, Roi was promoted to the rank of lieutenant.<br \/>\nHe was laid to rest in the cemetery of Kibbutz Nahal Oz. Among those who delivered eulogies was the Chief of Staff at the time, Lieutenant General Moshe Dayan, whose famous memorial speech became one of the most remembered speeches in Israeli history.<br \/>\nRoi left behind his wife Amira and their infant son Boaz.<br \/>\nThe members of Kibbutz Nahal Oz published a memorial booklet in his honor titled Roi. His memory and legacy were also commemorated in various publications and memorial works.<br \/>\n<br
